About Us

The Vancouver Chinese Film Festival: a non-profit overseas Chinese film festival officially recognized by the Government of British Columbia in Canada. The film festival was established in 2012, organized by the Vancouver Chinese Film Festival Organizing Committee, co-organized by the Vancouver International Film Festival and the Beijing University Student Film Festival. We have received strong support from the Chinese Consulate General in Vancouver and all levels of elected government in Canada.


The goal of the Vancouver Chinese Film Festival is to enhance public welfare by promoting Chinese culture and Chinese films. Our team’s talents in creative content creation, film marketing and other activities, allow excellent Chinese films to go abroad and be seen by the world.

The Vancouver Chinese Film Festival aims to enhance the development of China-Canada relations and promote cultural exchanges between China and Canada.

The Canadian government originally awarded the "Red Maple Leaf" symbol to the Vancouver Chinese Film Festival. The "Red Maple Leaf Award" is now the highest award of the Vancouver Chinese Film Festival.


The Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, said that the Vancouver Chinese Film Festival promoted “a greater understanding of Chinese culture and arts” and that the festival has helped “create a more inclusive Canada”. Liu Fei, Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Vancouver, fully supported the Vancouver Chinese Film Festival and expressed hopes that more young people could contribute to cultural exchanges between China and Canada.


The holding of the Vancouver Chinese Film Festival has caused a sensation in Chinese-speaking regions of North America and Asia. More than 200 media organizations from all around the world have reported on the festival, which include CNN, Xinhua News Agency, Phoenix TV, Apple Daily, Sina, Tencent, Sohu and many more. The Vancouver Chinese Film Festival has cooperated with the Beijing University Student Film Festival, one of the four major film festivals in China, for three consecutive years. Through the interaction of universities, film exchanges, and other organizations, many excellent Chinese films have been presented to the world stage.


The Vancouver Chinese Film Festival has also cooperated with well-known North American film festivals such as the Vancouver International Film Festival, the Toronto Film Festival, and the Montreal Film Festival to push higher visibility for Chinese-language films.

The main events of the Vancouver Chinese Film Festival include: Opening Ceremony, Excellent Chinese Film Judging and Screening, Short Film Competition, Film Market and Script Venture Investment, Academic Seminar, Cocktail Party, "Red Maple Leaf Award" Award Ceremony and Closing Ceremony.

2022

After two years coming back from the pandemic, the Vancouver Chinese Film Festival came back in person to celebrate our 10th anniversary! We have collaborated with the Vancouver International Youth Film Festival and have invited directors and filmmakers from the United States and Canada. We had a full house after returning which people were anticipating on seeing the awards live again.

2021

In 2021, affected by the epidemic, the Organizing Committee of the Vancouver Chinese Film Festival is still making contributions to the promotion of cultural exchanges between China and Canada. The organizing committee invited Canadian directors who have participated in the "Looking at China" project in the past to jointly produce a documentary "Looking Back at China". Canadian directors will share their travels in China, their experiences and experiences in China and their understanding of Chinese culture. love

2020

In 2020,  the 8th Vancouver Chinese Film Festival was hosted online due to the pandemic. The first try of our virtual festival was a successful event. We received greetings from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and all three level governors. The subscribers reached 500,000 all over the world, making the festival worldwide and globally known.

2019

In 2019, the Vancouver Chinese Film Festival once again held a sub-venue in China. In the context of the "One Belt One Road" initiative, in order to enhance the international dissemination of Chinese films and Chinese culture, the Vancouver Chinese Film Festival Organizing Committee and Southwest University jointly held the "7th Vancouver (International) Chinese Film Festival Chinese College Students Host Competition" Together with the micro-film competition, we will promote more outstanding Chinese youth to enter the stage of international cultural dissemination

2018

In 2018, the Vancouver Chinese Film Festival successfully held a sub-venue in China. In conjunction with Sichuan Normal University, the Vancouver Chinese Film Festival Chinese University Host Competition was held for the first time, attracting the participation of students from more than 100 colleges and universities across the country. The filmmaker was invited to Vancouver to host the 6th Vancouver Chinese Film Festival.

2017

In June 2017, the Vancouver Chinese Film Festival Organizing Committee once again sent 4 Canadian directors and 5 young American directors to go to Northwest China to carry out the "One Belt One Road" "Looking at China Gansu Tour" for a 17-day filming. The director from Canada encountered the Yellow River, the mother river of China, visited the headquarters of China's famous miscellaneous book "Reader", interviewed folk art artists, experienced the life of herdsmen, and learned about Lanzhou New Town. A total of 9 documentaries have been completed, including "Art Realm", "Flowing Lost", "Old Paper Vibrant", "Truth, Goodness and Beauty", "Forty Miles to the North", "Connecting Pulses", "Yongtai Sheep Pavilion", "Tucheng" and "Shandan Garden".
