In July 2013, the Vancouver Chinese Film Festival was officially registered by the Government of British Columbia, becoming the first qualified Chinese film festival organization in Canada. The first Vancouver Chinese Film Festival and the 21st Beijing College Student Film Festival Canada opened in Richmond, Canada. For the first time, the film festival brought a taste of home to the Chinese in the Greater Vancouver area. This is the first time that a Chinese-language film festival has happened in this multicultural metropolitan area.

The opening film was directed by Huang Hong and starred famous actors Ruby Lin, Huang Jue and Ding Yongdai: a touching film about the Wenchuan earthquake: “ Allure ''.

Zhou Xing, Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Beijing University Film Festival, Wang Yun, Secretary General, He Wei, Deputy Secretary General, Wang Liqun, Chairman of the Jury, Tian Huiqun, a famous screenwriter, and Ding Yongdai, an actor, attended the festival.
