History

The 4th Vancouver Chinese Film Festival was held in Vancouver, Canada from September 6th to September 11th, 2016. Member of Parliament Peter Julian, Member of Parliament Joe Peschisolido, Provincial Legislative Member Raj Chouhan and other government representatives attended the festival. As well, young director Fan Haolun from mainland China, well-known actor Jing Ke, young producer Xiao Yue, veteran North American Film Producer Paul Armstrong and North American veteran filmmaker David C. Jones attended.

Liu Fei, Consul General of the Chinese Consulate General in Vancouver, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Canadian BC Governor Christie Clark, and the Huilin Cultural Foundation sent warm congratulatory letters to the film festival.

MP Peter Julian delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of the film festival, and spoke highly of the contribution made by the Vancouver Chinese Film Festival in promoting cultural exchanges between Canada and China.

It is particularly worth mentioning that the director of the only Chinese film "Where Are You" at the 73rd Venice Film Festival, Fan Haolun, starring Jing Ke, was also invited by the Vancouver Chinese Film Festival to come to Vancouver to participate in competition for the Chinese film awards. He was received very warmly by local audiences. His film chooses the perspective of a vulnerable woman who has suffered from domestic violence for a long time.

In addition, the Vancouver Chinese Film Festival invited young talented Canadian directors to visit China for in-depth Chinese cultural experience. The team completed "Yipin Ula", "Jindalai Blossoms", "Rediscovering the Last Dream", "Lotus Falling", "Shuiyin": Five documentaries focusing on Northeast folk traditions, which was deeply loved by Canadian audiences.
