As always, the Vancouver Chinese Film Festival received strong support from officials from both the Canadian and Chinese governments. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau sent a congratulatory video for the 8th Vancouver Chinese Film Festival. As the Prime Minister mentioned in the video: Since 2013, the Vancouver Film Festival Organizing Committee has hosted a series of exciting activities to promote the cooperation of local filmmakers, and is committed to the dissemination of Chinese-language films in BC. Justin Trudeau said: “I would like to thank the Organizing Committee for bringing together people from different cultures and communities through film during such difficult times: we are in this together! Canada is a diverse country, and diversity is our strength. But we still have work to do to make Canada a more inclusive country free from discrimination and hatred, and this festival is a great opportunity to foster cultural exchange. Here we will share our experiences, celebrate our diversity and embrace our diverse cultures. Dear friends, thank you for your efforts to promote inclusion and diversity in Canada! I sincerely wish this festival a great success!”

As well Ms. Tong Xiaoling, Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Vancouver, and BC Premier John Horgan sent congratulatory messages, wishing the 8th Vancouver Chinese Film Festival a great success! Horgan also said that the Vancouver Chinese Film Festival is very important to Canada. While this year's film festival was held online, it allowed audiences around the world to recognize Chinese cinematic contributions and experience Canada's multiculturalism. Governor Horgan admired all the staff of the film festival for being able to find novel ways to share outstanding Chinese films despite the global pandemic.

MP Peter Julian, BC Provincial Minister Katrina Chan, Provincial Legislative Member Anne Kang, and BC Provincial Legislative Member Janet Routledge sent congratulatory videos and highly praised the Vancouver Chinese Film Festival for its commitment to building a platform for Chinese films to communicate with an international audience, so that more outstanding Chinese-language films and young Chinese filmmakers have the opportunity to go abroad for their creative efforts. Sheldon Larry, chairman of the film festival jury, spoke highly of the entries, and he praised Chinese-language cinema and the quality of film production in China. This year's film festival special judge Simone Bailey, a famous Hollywood star, mentioned in her video greeting: “the spread of Chinese culture in the film, whether it is real or fictional films, always gives us a new perspective to gain insight into human life and deal with the world with new senses. Movies can inspire, educate, entertain, and illuminate a bright and hopeful future.”
